Dozens protest against Israel’s planned demolition of Khan al-Ahmar

Dozens protest against Israel's planned demolition of Khan al-Ahmar

RAMALLAH

Dozens of Palestinian protesters demonstrated on a road leading to an illegal Israeli settlement adjacent to the Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar east of Jerusalem, on Friday, upon request by the Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee.

Dozens of protesters started the demonstration from inside the Khan al-Ahmar village to the settlement road; demonstrators stood on the sidewalk adjacent to the main street and chanted slogans against Israel and its on-going crimes against Bedouin communities.

Protesters waved the Palestinian flag and banners confirming the position of the Palestinian people and demanding the Palestinian Authority (PA) to reject the "deal of the century" proposed by the United States' administration.

Earlier this month, Israeli forces raided Khan al-Ahmar in preparation to demolish the village, which would displace more than 35 Palestinian families, as part of an Israeli plan to expand the nearby illegal Israeli settlement of Kfar Adummim.

Although the International Humanitarian Law prohibits the demolition of the village and illegal confiscation of private property, Israeli forces continue their planned expansion by forcing evictions and violating basic human rights of the people.

Israel has faced increasing international condemnation as the world watched Israeli forces prepare for the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar and attempting to forcibly displace its 181 residents, half of whom are children.

Israel has been constantly trying to uproot Bedouin communities from the east of Jerusalem area to allow settlement expansion in the area, which would later turn the entire eastern part of the West Bank into a settlement zone.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned

"the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by the occupation authorities in the designated areas (C) and in the occupied city of Jerusalem and its environs."

A spokeswoman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Liz Throssell, released a statement in which she called upon Israel not to proceed with their demolition plans of Khan al-Ahmar village and that the removal of its residents by force, as well as the destruction of private property is a violation of international law.
