Nigerian Authorities officially put on notice – Release Sheikh Zakzaky or Face International Ostracization

Release Sheikh Zakzaky or Face International Ostracization: Nigerian Authorities officially put on notice

On the eve of the second anniversary of the brutal clampdown on the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and the massacre of over a thousand members, the Nigerian authorites have been told to be aware that they have been officially put on notice over the unjustified continuing detention of Sheikh Zakzaky for two years without charges and against Court judgement. Nigerian authorities are being told to either release the Sheikh or face international ostracization.

With the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague already deeply investigating the Zaria massacre, experts say that the earlier Nigerian authorities pause in the way they are managing the issue of the Zaria massacre, the better for them and for the country.

The earlier they begin to behave as if Zaria massacre raises very significant issue of accountability for them and for the country, the better it will be for the International reputation of Nigeria.
